Narratives in the GTA
Community narratives are valuable sources of collective knowledge about the veiled complexities of the lives of immigrants in Toronto, in Canada, and beyond
This blog is the knowledge mobilization component of the course GL/SP 4701 Hispanic Community Narratives in the GTA, taught by Prof. Alejandro Zamora at Glendon College of York University, Toronto. Students employ different collaborative methodologies (life story interviews, guided autobiography, creative non-fiction writing), to collect, write, and explore stories of Hispanic and Latinx immigrants and communities established in Toronto, the GTA, and elsewhere. Each story is a collaborative project based on a unique relationship with the participant, the recognition of their experience, and a deep appreciation of their voice and dignity.
By mobilizing collective knowledge and experience through these stories, students understand three core concepts of the course: the narrative articulation of individuals and communities, narrative agency, and narrative activism.
This blog is a tribute to our participants, to their stories and voices, and a testimony of our gratitude to them
